India’s midsize SUV market is gearing up for a major transformation over the next 18 months. Leading automakers like Mahindra, Tata, Renault, Kia, and Nissan are all set to introduce a wave of fresh models and significant upgrades. Whether it’s brand-new SUVs or next-generation versions of popular names, the competition is about to heat up. Here’s a closer look at five anticipated midsize ICE SUVs making their way to Indian roads soon:
1. New Tata Sierra (ICE Version)

Tata Motors is reviving the iconic Sierra, and while the EV version will debut first by the end of this financial year, an internal combustion engine (ICE) variant is also on the cards. The ICE Sierra is expected to feature Tata’s upcoming 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, complemented by the familiar 2.0-litre diesel unit. Built on a shared platform with the Harrier EV, the new Sierra aims to combine classic styling with modern performance and tech.
2. Next-Gen Kia Seltos
The Kia Seltos, one of the most popular midsize SUVs in India, is preparing for a generational upgrade. Spy shots have already revealed early glimpses of the new model testing on Indian roads. While official details are still awaited, the next-gen Seltos is expected to feature a complete design overhaul—inside and out. Premium cabin materials, upgraded infotainment, and possibly a hybrid powertrain could make the new Seltos even more appealing. Launch is expected in 2026.
3. Mahindra XUV700 Facelift
Mahindra is already working on a facelifted version of the XUV700, with a launch expected in early 2026. Mechanically, it is likely to retain the current 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, but updates will focus on cosmetic enhancements, added features, and interior improvements. As part of the mid-lifecycle refresh, expect sharper styling cues and a more connected, tech-rich cabin.
4. All-New Renault Duster
Renault is all set to bring back the Duster, but this time with a much more advanced foundation. The upcoming model will be based on the CMF-B+ platform, which is being localized for Indian production. This architecture opens the door for a hybrid powertrain, signaling a big leap from the older Duster’s conventional setup. The new Duster is expected to offer better safety, efficiency, and tech when it re-enters the Indian market.
5. New Nissan Midsize SUV
Nissan is planning a major comeback in India with a four-model strategy, and one of the key products will be a brand-new midsize SUV. Expected to launch in the first half of the upcoming financial year, this SUV will follow the debut of a new compact MPV (based on the Renault Triber’s platform). The SUV will serve as a spiritual successor to the now-discontinued Nissan Terrano, and is likely to bring modern design and competitive pricing to attract buyers in this high-demand segment.
