The compact SUV market in India continues to be a battleground for automakers, with April 2025 delivering some standout performances and a few surprises. Leading the segment is the ever-reliable Maruti Suzuki Brezza, which sold 16,971 units. Despite a slight 1% dip compared to April 2024’s 17,063 units, the Brezza’s blend of practicality, affordability, and Maruti’s widespread service network keeps it ahead of the pack.

Hot on its heels is the Tata Nexon, which posted an impressive 15,457 units, a robust 38% jump from last year’s 11,168 units. The Nexon’s bold design and feature-packed cabin continue to resonate with buyers, making it a formidable rival. Meanwhile, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx held steady with 14,345 units, virtually unchanged from its 14,298 units in April 2024. This consistency underscores the Fronx’s appeal in a segment where fluctuations are common.

The Tata Punch, however, faced a setback, with sales dropping 35% to 12,496 units from 19,158 units a year ago. In contrast, the Kia Sonet showed resilience, clocking 8,068 units and a modest 2% growth over last year’s 7,901 units. The Hyundai Venue, on the other hand, saw a 13% decline, managing 7,953 units compared to 9,120 units in April 2024, hinting at tougher competition in the segment.

A standout performer was the Mahindra XUV 3XO, which surged 89% to 7,568 units from 4,003 units last year. Its bold styling and tech-laden interiors are clearly striking a chord with buyers. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Exter struggled to maintain momentum, with a 30% drop to 5,416 units from 7,756 units, suggesting its initial hype may be fading.

Making a strong debut, the Skoda Kylaq secured ninth place with 5,364 units. Built on the localized MQB A0 IN platform and powered by a 1.0L turbo-petrol engine, the Kylaq offers both manual and automatic options, appealing to a wide range of buyers. Rounding out the top ten is the newly launched Kia Syros, which sold 4,000 units. Positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, the Syros is already carving a niche in Kia’s lineup.

As the compact SUV segment gears up for new launches and updates later this year, models like the Brezza, Nexon, and XUV 3XO are setting the pace, while newcomers like the Kylaq and Syros add fresh excitement to the mix.
