Upcoming New Maruti Suzuki Escudo SUV – Creta Rival Launching Soon!

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its much-anticipated Maruti Escudo SUV in the Indian market on September 3, 2025. This brand-new midsize SUV will take on popular rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, and will sit strategically between the Brezza and Grand Vitara in Maruti’s SUV portfolio.

What is the New Maruti Escudo SUV?

Internally codenamed Y17, the upcoming SUV will be sold via Maruti’s Arena dealerships, making it more accessible to a wider customer base. Spy shots of the test mule suggest that the Escudo will be larger than the Brezza and could offer more space than even the Grand Vitara.

Platform & Engine Options

The Maruti Escudo will be based on the same platform as the Grand Vitara and is expected to share its 1.5L petrol engine options, including both:

  • Naturally-aspirated mild hybrid
  • Strong hybrid powertrain

This will give buyers the flexibility to choose between performance and fuel efficiency, catering to both city and highway users.

Dimensions & Boot Space

While official specs haven’t been revealed, the Escudo is likely to measure between 4330 mm to 4370 mm in length, potentially making it longer than the Grand Vitara (4345 mm). Boot capacity is also expected to improve over the Grand Vitara’s 373-litre trunk, offering more practicality for families and road-trippers.

From 7-Seater to Affordable 5-Seater

Originally planned as a 3-row, 7-seater SUV, Maruti has now shifted focus to a 5-seater configuration to maintain competitive pricing and affordability. This change is also the reason the Escudo will retail through Arena dealerships, rather than the premium Nexa chain.

Maruti Escudo SUV Price & Launch Timeline

Although pricing hasn’t been officially announced, industry estimates suggest the Maruti Escudo price will start at around ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to ₹20 lakh for the top-end strong hybrid variant. This pricing is likely to overlap with the Grand Vitara, offering customers more variety in the ₹10-20 lakh range.

Bookings & Production Status

  • Bookings for the Maruti Escudo are expected to open in the coming days.
  • Series production has already begun, indicating that Maruti is aiming to ensure a shorter waiting period.

It remains to be seen whether this new SUV will have a Toyota counterpart, like other Maruti models such as the Baleno–Glanza and Ertiga–Rumion.
